Randy John Barth, 57, passed away on February 25, 2026, after a courageous and unwavering battle with primary progressive multiple sclerosis (MS). Services times are pending.

He was born on April 26, 1968, in Dickinson, North Dakota, to Larry and Cecelia “Whitey” Barth, and grew up in Hebron, where he developed the adventurous spirit and warm humor that would define his life.

Randy graduated from Bismarck State College with a two year degree in Electronics. He began his career in Dickinson before joining Montana Dakota Utilities (MDU), working first in Williston for three years and later transferring to Bismarck. He was proud to work for MDU.

In 1997, Randy married Stephanie Lauer, and together they welcomed three children—Kierra (2001), Isaac (2003), and Macy (2006). His children were the center of his world. He often told others that he was fighting his illness for them, determined to see who they would become and what paths they would choose. They remained his greatest joy and deepest source of strength.

Randy lived a life full of movement and laughter. He loved water skiing, snow skiing, and deer hunting with his brothers-in-law, Tom and Jayme, and he even competed in bodybuilding shows. His sense of humor was legendary—quick, sharp, and always ready to brighten someone’s day. He always enjoyed being the life of the party. Even as his MS progressed, he never lost that spark, still making everyone laugh. He faced every challenge with grace, grit, and a remarkable lack of complaint.

Randy was originally diagnosed with MS in 2000 and continued working until he was no longer able and retired from MDU due to his disability in 2007. Randy continued to live at home for as long as possible, thanks in large part to the devoted care of Stephanie’s dad, Darrell, who supported him for two years. In 2013, Randy moved to St. Gabriel’s Benedictine Living Community, where he formed meaningful connections with the care staff. His humor, kindness, and resilience left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. The family would like to thank all the staff at St. Gabriel’s and HIA Hospice for the care they gave to Randy. And, a special thank you to those friends that came to visit Randy throughout his time at St. Gabriel’s.

Randy is survived by his mother, Cecelia “Whitey” Barth of Bismarck; his children, Kierra, Isaac, and Macy; his former wife and friend, Stephanie Sievert; his sisters Della (Tom) Messer of Dickinson and Kim (Jayme) Glasser of Bismarck; and his beloved nieces—Kayla (Austin) Porter, Nicole (Tyler) Heins, Lynae (Joe) Hallock, and Krista (Tate) Olson—each of whom held a special place in his heart, along with nine great nephews, five great nieces, many close friends, and his extended family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Barth, and his stepfather, Richard Koppinger.

Randy will be remembered for his humor, his courage, and the deep love he carried for his family. His life was a testament to perseverance and the power of joy, even in the face of hardship.
