Randy Scott Bean, 73, of Tupper Lake, NY became free from pain and suffering on April 22, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. This was done in the company of his family. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 29 from 2pm to 6 pm at the Frary Funeral Home, Tupper Lake. A prayer service will be at 6pm with Deacon David Demers officiating. Randy was born on April 20, 1952, in Ogdensburg NY, the son of the late Frederick P. Bean and Marjorie I. (Thurston) Bean. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1970 and later attended Mater Dei College from 1977 until 1980 where he earned an associates degree in Criminal Justice. Randy proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force in August of 1972 until he was honorably discharged in November of 1972. He married his high school sweetheart, Valerie Melita Smith on August 23, 1975 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Ogdensburg, NY with Rev. Nelson Skinner officiating. Randy first went to work for Grossmans Lumber Company in Ogdensburg, he then went to work for Diamond Nation and Standard Shade Roller in Ogdensburg before becoming a safety and security officer in Rome in 1984. In 1986 he became a safety and security officer at Sunmount DDSO in Tupper Lake, NY, until his retirement in 2009. Randy is survived by his wife, Valerie Bean of Tupper Lake, NY, his sons; Kevin Bean of Tupper Lake and Mathew Bean and his wife, Monica, of Tupper Lake, his six grandchildren; Nevaeh, Rylee, Kane, Abigail, Remington and Valerie, his brothers; Frederick Bean and his wife, Sue, of Ogdensburg, NY, and Ricky Bean and his wife, Vicki, of Ogdensburg; a sister, Diane and her husband, Mike Reynolds, of Ogdensburg, NY; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents, and his sister Marjorie, and her husband James Blount. Randy enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most importantly he enjoyed making memories with his grandchildren. Even when he was very sick and was in a lot of pain there was a smile on his face when those kids walked through the door. He was a member of the Pondorosa and Poker Flats Hunting clubs and a former member of the Tupper Lake Masonic Lodge. The family would like to give a special thank you to the Adirondack Medical Center Oncology department nurses and doctors for their continued support during this long battle.
