BASILE~ It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Randy Fruge announce his passing on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday, January 15, 2024 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile. Burial will follow in the St. Augustine Cemetery with Father Keenan Brown, Celebrant.
Randy was born on December 15, 1953, to Rodney and Euta Aguillard Fruge. Randy’s passion was his family, his church, and his farm, and he took pride in all he did. He was an Usher and active member of St. Augustine Catholic church, Acadia/Evangeline Fire Protection District Fire Board Commissioner and volunteer fireman, member of the Knights of Columbus, a board member of the Southern Producers Coop as well as the Basile Rice Drier. He also served a term as a ward constable.
He had a strong relationship with God. He enjoyed cooking, hunting, fishing, and crawfishing. After a hard day’s work, he could be found on the porch of his outdoor kitchen enjoying a cold Miller HighLife, listening to Cajun music or chatting with a friend. He was very proud of his daughters and grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Randy will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him especially his wife of fifty years, Marsha Vidrine Fruge. He was a loving father to Nicole Fruge Habetz and husband, Nick of Lake Charles, Erin Fruge Hill and husband, Troy of Youngsville, Carmen Fruge Lopez and husband, Jon of Basile and Jaime Fruge Elder and husband, William of Lake Charles; loving brother to Cindy Fruge Choate and husband, Brunson of Pottsboro, TX, Claudia Fruge Hurst and husband, Fred of Slaughter and Rodney Fruge, Jr and wife, Donna of Sulphur; loving grandfather to the twelve joys of his life: Brooks, Grant and Maris Habetz, Claire, Kate and Evan Hill, Ella, Sydni and Jules Lopez, Marli, Aubrie and Hallie Elder. Randy will also be forever remembered by his numerous godchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Clarence and Helen Manuel Vidrine.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Basile on Sunday, January 14th from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm and again on Monday, January 15th from 8:00 am until time of services. Knights of Columbus will pray a rosary at 5:00 pm on Sunday.
