Randy Wayne Kohutek, of San Marcos, Texas, died surrounded by family, friends and fellow Austin Fire Department (AFD) brethren on November 27, 2024, following a motorcycle accident. He is going to be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Randy is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly May Kohutek, his daughters, Lyla Grace and Emma Joy; his parents, Ted and Jaime Kohutek; his sister, Kim Gonzales, her husband Joseph and his nephew and niece, Grant and Scarlet; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Clydelle Haston and Charles and Florence Kohutek.
Randy was born in Houston, Texas on June 16, 1983. The doctor's announcement was not his gender first to his parents, but the fact that he was a flaming redhead. A stereotype which he lived up to his entire life feisty and living on the edge.
Randy spent his childhood in Angleton, Texas and was well known in the community. Randy graduated from Angleton High School with honors, and eventually went on to attend the University of Texas for a short period before joining the United States Army. During his service in the military, he was stationed in Germany. In 2003, he was deployed to Iraq working as an infantry medic, serving his fellow soldiers in their time of need.
Upon his return home from his military service, Randy searched for his calling. He eventually found it in serving the Austin community by joining the Austin Fire Department in 2008. He was a member of the AFD for 16 years. Randy started his career at Station 25/Engine 25. In 2010, he transitioned to Station 45/Engine 45, where he spent the remainder of his career. Randy was the recipient of multiple Phoenix Awards, recognizing the lives he has saved throughout the years.
While Randy lived a full and impressive life, the accomplishment he was most proud of was the family he created. In 2018, he and his wife, Kimberly, were married in Banff, Canada. Together, they welcomed their two daughters, Lyla and Emma, into the world in 2019 and 2021. Randy's greatest adventure was becoming a husband and father, and he wore those titles with such love and pride.
Randy also had a strong Christian faith that his family finds comfort in during this difficult time.
