1958-2025

Mr. Randall Gene "Randy" Mathews, age 66, of Fort Payne, passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from the graveside of Geraldine Cemetery. Burial will immediately follow the service. Officiating is Bro. Tex Martin.

Randy is survived by his wife: Karen Hope; daughter: Dedra (Michael) Robison; brother: Rodney (Linda) Mathews; nephews: Tyler Floyd, Dakota Mathews, Dalton Mathews; grandchildren: Mitt Robison, Addie Robison, Eli Robison; several other grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: Jody & Melba Mathews.

At the age of 13, Randy Mathews played piano for The Faith Trio. He also was the pianist for the Crossville FFA Quartet in the early 1970's. While in school, he also played for The Big Rock Singers from Lookout Mountain (this is the first group that Randy Owen of Alabama played for).

The Southmen from Gadsden hired Randy before he graduated high school. Tim Riley, who later sang for Gold City, sang bass for The Southmen. After The Southmen, Randy played for The Singing Americans.

When Anthony Burger left The Kingsmen to play for Bill Gaither, they hired Randy as their pianist. Randy returned to Sand Mountain for a few years after he left The Kingsmen. He was excited when he received a call to play for Gold City and his old buddy, Tim Riley, and was with them for several years.

While Randy played with The Kingsmen and Gold City, they were each named as the number one band in Gospel Music. Gold City was also named the number one group.
