Randy Sowders Obituary

Visit the Strickland Funeral Home - Caldwell website to view the full obituary.

Randall “Randy” Jay Sowders was born July 21, 1962, in Mercedes, TX and went to his eternal home on September 10, 2025, following a courageous battle with cancer. Randy never met a stranger and was known for building friendships with people from all walks of life. He was the perfect person to help work on a tractor or to share a fishing trip with. He loved to barbecue for his friends and family, and they loved eating it. His family would not go hungry with Randy around. He never ran out of stories, wisdom or humor to keep them entertained. Randy’s quick wit loved a good debate, and his dry sense of humor brought laugher to anyone he encountered. Animals were always an important part of his life and brought so much joy and comfort, especially when things were challenging. They always seemed to understand what sometimes was difficult to say.

Before his health forced him to retire, Randy spent his career doing numerous things with his hands. He was a “jack of all trades” but in fact, a master of many. Randy really could conquer almost anything it seemed. That tenacity and attention to detail carried him through his career and as well as his relationships. He was a plumber and welder by trade and if given long enough, could solve any mechanical problem presented. Randy enjoyed being a tradesman and all the journeys and friendships that provided throughout his life.

More than anything in life, Randy loved his family and thanked God for blessing him with the chance to be a father. He was forever grateful to Doug for sharing Rachel, Michael and Timothy. They were the joy of his life along with his grandchildren and his best friend, his wife Diana. Randy and Diana went on adventures, vacations and stay-cations together. They never lost sight of the friendship within their marriage. They could have fun just about anywhere, as long as they were together. As the cancer progressed, they only appreciated the small things, more.

Randy is survived by his wife of 24 years, Diana, their children; Rachel, Michael and Timothy all of College Station; his grandchildren; Alissa, Hunter and Mason; his siblings James (Cathy), Alana (Jay), Vicki, and Tammy; his niece Chasity Parham (Ben) and their children; his fur-children, Heidi, Bluebell and Jinger and other close friends. Randy knew Jesus and so we celebrate his life and his healing. The family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice Luminos for their kindness and support in the last few weeks. They would also like to express gratitude to Marie Schoeneman, countless friends and Slovacek’s for their support and help during this time.
