Randy Tyler Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Reed's Chapel Funeral Home - Lexington on Mar. 1, 2026.
Randy Autry Tyler (age 74) passed away on February 28, 2026, in Jackson, TN, after a lengthy illness.

Randy was born in Lexington, TN, on July 30, 1951, to the late Nadell and John (Pug) Tyler. He spent most of his life in Lexington, but also lived briefly in various places across the country because of his father's work as a pipe-liner. In addition to his parents, two of his siblings preceded him in death: Tommy (Jolene) Myracle, who appointed him as the drummer of their family band, and Sherry (Reed) Blankenship.

Randy had a variety of interests throughout his life. He greatly enjoyed playing football in high school, but his passion for music was a significant part of his life's work. He began playing the drums at the age of 11 and had the good fortune to perform in several bands. He had a deep love for his fellow musicians, whom he considered his band of brothers.

After graduating from high school, Randy attended both Memphis State University and UT Martin before serving two years in the U.S. Army. Following his military service, he performed in various bands throughout West Tennessee. In 1974, Randy and his wife, Annette, moved to Nashville, and soon after, he hit the road with Little David Wilkins in his band, The Good Night Special. In 1980, Randy left Little David's group to pursue a solo career and signed a two-year recording contract with RCA as part of a duo called Tyler David. While with RCA, he recorded two songs.

By 1985, Randy had returned to West Tennessee, where he played drums and sang in a band he founded, named The Most Valuable Players. The band established their own publishing company and record label, performing throughout West Tennessee and Mississippi. Later, Randy played with the Hot Country Band for many years. In addition to his music career, he worked as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.

Randy was married to the love of his life, Annette, for over 52 years. They had two children, who were his pride and joy: Rachel Walker (married to Rob) and Blake Tyler (married to Taylor). Randy was also blessed with five granddaughters, whom he considered life's greatest blessings: Hannah, Abbie, Mary Kate Walker, Olivia, and Jane Tyler.

Randy leaves behind a brother, Johnny Tyler (Joanne), and six nieces and nephews: Jen Tyler, Sandy Myracle, Kenny Myracle, Chris Burke, Mandi Dodson, and Molly Lindsey.

Randy was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Lexington. He played the drums in the praise band and took great pride in being a deacon, which allowed him to serve in various ministries within the church. He genuinely wanted everyone to experience his love for Jesus Christ. In 2007, he began performing in a gospel trio called 4Ever His, alongside his brothers in Christ, Steve Dodds and Kenny Scott. They sang together for many years and developed a special bond.

In the last years of his life, Randy dedicated himself to helping others. He and Annette volunteered at the Hygiene Station through the Henderson County Homeless Coalition. Although his life was fulfilling, he has now found healing and is at peace in his eternal home with his Savior.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 1 at 1PM at the First Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be at Reed's Chapel Monday 4PM-9PM and at the First Baptist Church Tuesday 11AM until time of service. The family request in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Henderson County Homeless Coalition.
