Randall Verle Young, known affectionately to friends and family as Randy, a lifelong resident of Shelley, Idaho, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, in Idaho Falls at the age of 76.
Born on March 27, 1949, in Shelley, Randy was the son of Guy Waid Young and Dorothy Young. A true son of the community, he graduated from Shelley High School and spent his career as a staple of the local workforce. He contributed decades of dedicated service to warehouse operations at French’s, Pillsbury, and Basic American Foods.
Randy was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a man of many talents who took great pride in working with his hands; he spent countless hours restoring and showing his classic car and meticulously building wooden drift boats from kits.
An outdoorsman at heart, Randy was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a skilled whitewater rafter. He was never happier than when he was on the water or in the mountains. In recent years, he could most often be found exploring mountain trails in his Razor with his wife, Marianne, and their loyal dogs, Ozzy and Zoey, by their side. Above all, Randy cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren—whether they were at local parks, cheering them on at sporting events, or sharing his love for the great outdoors.
His greatest legacy is the five generations of family he leaves behind. Randy is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Marianne Young of Shelley, ID; his children, Troy Young (Tammy) of Phoenix, AZ, Celena Call (Chris) of Shelley, ID, Tracie Kay Fish (Joe) of Lee's Summit, MO, Brett Powell of Idaho Falls, ID, and Brandon Powell of Idaho Falls, ID. He is also survived by his siblings, Curtis Young, Kristine Young, Barbara Brixey, Tony Young, Jeff Young, and Brian Young; as well as 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Waid and Dorothy, and his brothers, Roger and Tracey Young.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 19th, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Nalder Funeral Home, located at 110 West Oak Street, Shelley, ID.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 20th at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Shelley 6th Ward Chapel), located at 184 North Park Avenue, Shelley, ID. The family will welcome visitors at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the service.
Interment will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery (793 E 1200 N, Shelley, ID).
