Obituary published on Legacy.com by Metcalf Mortuary - St. George on Jan. 26, 2026.
Our beautiful and beloved Wife, Mother, Grammy, and Aunt, Ranee LuDell Cazier Thorpe, 77, passed away on Jan. 22, 2026, in
St. George, Utah, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born May 27, 1948, to kind and loving parents, C. Brown and Delna Hatch Cazier.
The last sibling to join the Cazier family, she was adored by her older siblings, Bernetta (Bob) Hurst, Aldeen (Clark) Palfreyman, and Clyde (Cheryl) Cazier. They often spoke of the light and fun she brought into their home and family. As a young girl, she wore long braids while riding bareback on her horse, Reno, imagining she was Annie Oakley. She attended Mapleton Elementary School and graduated from Springville High School.
Ranee married Paul Ira Thorpe on Aug. 9, 1968, and they were sealed for time and eternity in the Provo LDS Temple on June 20, 1992. She supported Paul's demanding career, laughed at most of his jokes, and counseled with him as they guided their family and built a beautiful life together. They enjoyed time with good friends playing Pinochle and lots of golf. Ranee was beautiful, always fun to be around, and enjoyed traveling and experiencing the world while radiating love to all around her.
The Thorpe family grew to include four children, Melynda, Marcee, Megan, and Trevor. As each married, the family gained sons- and daughters-in-law, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, foster grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Paul and Ranee created beautiful, loving homes in Springville and later St. George. They ensured that their grandchildren visited Disneyland, the national parks, beaches, and various cultural events. A highlight for the entire family was a Disney cruise to Mexico.
Ranee guided her family by serving them. She was their number one fan, cheering from the stands at performances, sporting events, graduations, and art shows. She had the gift of loving collectively and individually, and we all knew that we were the most important person in the world to her.
Ranee loved her work in accounting at Central Bank in Provo, and after moving to St. George, at the Washington County School District Office. Her colleagues became family to her. She was active in her Faith, serving in callings as Relief Society President, Young Women's President, and in various Stake positions. Ranee loved attending the temple. She was also active in her community, serving as Chairperson of the Miss Springville Pageant, the Hobble Creek Ladies Golf Association, and the Annual Boulders Easter Egg Hunt.
She is survived by her loving husband, Paul Ira Thorpe; their children, Melynda (Amy) Thorpe, Marcee (Matt) Edwards, Megan (Kevon) Inouye, and Trevor (Abbie) Thorpe; 30 grandchildren; and her 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings. Ranee's reunion with family is surely being celebrated in the heavens this week.
Grammy always lingered the longest, waving until we drove out of sight. Thank you, Ranee, Mom, Grammy for lingering longer as you gracefully and graciously navigated Alzheimer's Disease. Your long goodbye was the sweetest of gifts, and your loving recognition, smiles, and personality continued to lift us even after your words had faded. It is not easy to let you go.
To the staff at Legacy Village and Integrated Hospice, thank you for loving our Mom and your Nae-Nae, and for valuing the love and light in her.
