Barbara Ann (Miller) Thorpe, age 71, of Marion, passed away at Marion General Hospital Hospice care on January 25, 2026 after complications following open heart surgery. She was born in
Gallipolis, Ohio on December 9, 1954 to Oscar B. and Shirley A. (Miller) Miller. After graduating with the Elgin High School Class of 1972, she began working at Frisch's Restaurant where she met the man with whom she would spend the rest of her life, Charles H. Thorpe. After a whirlwind romance, he proposed and they were wed at Grace Baptist Church on Valentines Day 1973.
Within a year, Barbara found employment at Fulfillment Corporation of America, later becoming Kable Fulfillment, where she worked for 30 years, with her final years working and supervising in the Printing Department. After leaving there, she found employment at Walmart working for almost 16 years in the Deli Department, retiring on her birthday in 2020. Barb enjoyed crocheting, making afghans for friends and family. Much of her time in retirement was spent playing Mahjongg on her phone and reading. She loved shopping and used it to relax. She was an avid Elvis fan and loved watching Cary Grant movies, her favorite being An Affair to Remember. She loved animals and always had two or three dogs roaming the house along with several cats over the more than 52 years of marriage to Charlie. She will be missed by her fur babies Chico, Daisy, Baby Girl and Mittens.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Charlie, along with their daughter Stephanie L. (Marion) Galloway, sister-in-law Barbara Miller, brother-in-law Mark W. (Jodi) Thorpe, sister- in-law Sharon L. (Rev. William) Middleton ,sister-in-law Wanda Thorpe, nephew Cory Miller and numerous aunts and uncles, cousins and extended family located in Gallia and Lawrence Counties, She will be missed in particular by her cousin Linda Bloomfield with whom she would take summer camping trips and her long time friend Judy Smith who was always there to help whenever she needed a hand.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her brother Randy Miller, sisters Rhonda Kay and Susan Annette Miller, several aunts and uncles on both parents sides and numerous friends and co- workers she had met throughout her life. Friends and family are invited to visitation on Monday February 2. 2026 from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Boyd Funeral Home, the funeral services taking place at 12 pm on Tuesday the 3rd , officiated by Pastor David Rush, with visitation available an hour prior. Internment will follow the services at Grand Prairie Cemetery. The family would like to thank Ohio Health/Compassus Hospice Services for their care during Barbara's final hours. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Marion County Humane Society or to the Homeless to Home cat shelter.
