Raul Sanchez Sr.

Elsa - Under his family's prayerful watch, Raul Sanchez, Sr., entered eternal rest
with our Lord on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 in Elsa, TX. Raul was born
April 10, 1935 to Fernando and Emilia Sánchez in Sabinas Hidalgo, Nuevo
Leon. Having immigrated to the United States through the Bracero
Program his father was involved with, the family settled in Edcouch, TX.
Later, he met Catalina López, his wife of 63 years, and they eventually
settled in Elsa, TX raising their children and building a life together. After
working in the fields with his family, he started a career as a diesel
mechanic. In semi-retirement, he cultivated the land behind his house to
provide corn and feed for the beloved horses he cared for at his property in
La Blanca. Later in life, he received his confidant, Blue, a South American
Blue and Gold Macaw. Blue only took to him, and if we're being honest, him
to Blue. They were best friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fernando Sánchez Sr. and Emilia
Sánchez, and son-in-law, Alberto Ybarra. He is survived by his wife,
Catalina, 2- sons; Raul (Karen) Sánchez, Jr., Rogelio (Angelica) Sánchez,
4-daughters, Leticia (Ricardo) Gomez, Liliana (Alberto+) Ybarra, Laura
(Manuel) Rodriguez, and Lucinda (Lamont) Recio; 3-brothers; Ruben
(Juanita) Sánchez, Modesto (Christella) Sánchez, and Fernando
(Margarita) Sánchez, 2- sisters; Elidia (Jose+) Ayala, and Emilia
(Raymundo) Cano; 15-Grandchildren; 1- Great-Grandchild on the way, and
numerous nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A holy rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm at Salinas Funeral Home - Chapel of the Heavens in Elsa. Funeral Service will be at St. Theresa of
the Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Edcouch, TX. on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 1:00 on with interment will follow at
Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco, TX.
