Ray Ammons Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Medina Funeral Home & Cremation Service on Feb. 17, 2026.
Ray Ammons, age 62, passed away, after battling a short illness, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at his home in Humboldt, Tennessee.

He was born on August 20, 1963, and raised in Ripley, Tennessee to the late Don Ammons and Betty Ellis Ammons.

Ray attended Union University and other institutions to earn his Master's Degree in Computer Science. While he was dedicated to his academic and professional endeavors, his heart truly belonged to music. Ray began teaching at various schools as a band director, inspiring countless students through his passion and talent.

An accomplished musician, Ray enjoyed playing a variety of instruments, with the trumpet holding a special place as his favorite. He often delighted family and friends with cherished stories from his school days, his years of teaching, and the many meaningful experiences that shaped his life.

Ray also had a deep affection for his three beloved cats-Teddy, Pepper, and Callie-whom he lovingly shared with his wife, daughter, and brother. Known for his kind heart and gentle spirit, Ray had a remarkable ability to bring joy to others and brighten any room with his smile.

He will forever be remembered with love and will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by two brothers, Neal Ammons and Mike Ammons.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille Ammons; daughter, Jackie Ammons; two brothers, Barry Ammons and Kevin Ammons; nieces and nephews, Blane Ammons, Michelle Ammons, Chris Ammons, Tracy Ammons, Alex Ammons and Sarah Ammons.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
