Obituary of Ray Bennett
Salamanca, NY- Sherrie L. "Ray" Bennett passed away Saturday (March 29, 2025) at the Salamanca Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a long illness.
Born December 7, 1951 in Olean, he was the son of Marlan and Margaret Green Murphy. He was married to Doris Collins who predeceased him March 31, 2017.
Mr. Bennett enlisted in the United States Navy in 1970 and served until 1972. After the military, he worked for Dresser Rand for over 40 years as a pipefitter.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Great Valley.
In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle, and being outdoors. He loved to stay up to date with the current events happening in the world.
He is survived by 4 sons, Charles Bennett of Niagara Falls, David (Reba Davis) Bennett of Olean, Ken Bennett of Alfred, and James Nelligan of Salamanca; 2 brothers, Michael Murphy of Little Valley and Ralph Haxton of Wellsvile; 2 grandchildren, Daniel Nelligan and Zoe Nelligan, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by 3 sisters, Marsha Coy, Patricia Murphy, and Lucille Murphy,
Friends will be received on Thursday (April 3, 2025) from 10 am to 11 am at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Road, Olean. A funeral service will begin at 11am. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean.
