Baxter “Ray” Chambers, age 92, of Gallatin, TN passed away on December 26th, 2023. Ray was born on March 18th, 1931, in Gallatin, TN. Ray is preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years Peggy Chambers, his parents Tom and Una Chambers, son Mark Chambers, and his grandson Jeremy Morales. He is survived by his son Stephen (Iryna) Chambers, daughters Stephanie Chambers, Lauren Chambers, and Grace (Jacob) Swayze, as well as eight grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
Ray was known for his fantastic sense of humor, which had a unique and delightful dryness to it. He had a way of making people laugh even in the toughest of times. His quick wit and clever jokes brought joy to countless individuals and created lasting memories.
One of Ray's greatest passions was staying active and taking care of his health. He was a member of the YMCA and enjoyed swimming. Running held a special place in his heart, and he proudly served as a longtime member of the Nashville Striders. His dedication led him to participate in prestigious races such as the Boston Marathon. In addition to his love for athletics, Ray shared a deep bond with his wife over skiing. Together, they enjoyed creating cherished memories on snowy slopes. Their passion for skiing extended to their grandchildren, whom he lovingly taught how to navigate the slopes with skill and grace.
A visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on December 30, 2023, at Alexander Funeral Home & Cremation Center located at 584 Nashville Pike in Gallatin, TN. Following the visitation, a funeral service will commence at 12:00 PM at the same location. Finally, Ray will be laid to rest during a burial ceremony at Gallatin City Cemetery, located at 250 Cemetery Ave in Gallatin, TN. The burial is scheduled to take place from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on the same day.
Baxter Ray Chambers will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. His legacy of humor, kindness, and dedication will live on through the memories he created and the love he shared. May his soul find eternal peace as he rests among the stars.
