RAY BENJAMIN MURPHY, 81, beloved husband of Laura Murphy, passed away Tuesday evening October 10, 2023 in Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
A native of Graniteville, SC, Ray was a son of the late B. J. and Alma Ferguson Murphy. He was a lifelong resident of Aiken County and retired from Owens Corning after 37 years. He was a former member and ordained deacon at Calvary Baptist Church, Graniteville and Solid Rock Baptist Church, Aiken. He was a current member of Talatha Baptist Church and a member of the choir. He loved the Lord, his wife and family with all his heart. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan and enjoyed golfing and fishing when his health permitted.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 62 years, Laura, include his daughter, Darlene Sullivan (Rick); his son, Troy Murphy (Carrie), all of Aiken; grandchildren, Tyler Bland (Bridgette), Jacob Murphy (Taylor), Jessica Griffin (Anthony), Ricky Sullivan (Lexie); great-grandchildren, Kolton and Jordan Sullivan, Peyton Bland, Tate, Collins and Bowen Murphy. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by a grandson, Trey Bland; sister, Jane Wahl; brother, Simmie Murphy; beloved dogs, Ben and Waylon.
The family will receive friends Saturday morning, October 14th beginning at 10 o'clock at Talatha Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 11 o'clock. Interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. The Revs. Jordan Bird and Ronnie Powell will officiate.
