Ray Rodriguez, 89, of Gainesville, FL, formerly of Levittown, NY, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025. He was born on December 26, 1935, in Puerto Padre, Las Tunas, Cuba to Alejo Rodriguez and Candida Marin.
He is survived by his daughter, Iris Ariet, and his three grandchildren, Mario, Christina, and Peter Ariet, his sister Nersa Bolsom of New York, and many nieces and nephews in both the U.S. and Cuba. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Doris Rodriguez.
Ray was a skilled helicopter and car A/C mechanic who loved working with his hands. He was devoted to his craft, whether in the garage or online. His ability to diagnose and solve problems, especially with cars, was unmatched. While he specialized in A/C, there wasn't an issue he couldn't tackle, and he always shared his knowledge generously, eager to help others improve their lives with his years of experience.
Ray had a quiet spirit, a kind heart, and a wonderful smile and laugh. In his later years, he was happiest in his garage or riding his tractor around the yard. He always looked out for his grandchildren and supported them through life's challenges. His favorite color was blue, only wearing blue shirts, and he had a lifelong love of computers and horse racing. He was also an avid fan of baseball and softball, loved detective shows, and would light up when sharing his piloting skills on Microsoft Flight Simulator.
After having a stroke later in life, Ray found comfort in routine and simple pleasures. Watching Castle became part of his daily rhythm; he never missed an episode and always looked forward to when he could watch it again. Even after his stroke, his mind remained active and sharp. Though limited physically, he still found ways to communicate clearly and created wonderful moments with those around him. His character and presence remained steady and strong until the very end.
Ray was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. After Doris passed, she was always with him in his memories, in the home they built together. Their strength, warmth, and care will live on through their family.
In keeping with Ray's simple and humble nature, there will be no formal service. Instead, we invite you to keep him in your thoughts or say a quiet prayer in his memory.
He'll be remembered for his gentle nature, strong work ethic, and the deep love he had for his family. He will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts. Now, he is at peace, reunited with Doris, and together their legacy continues in the lives they touched.
