Harris Ray Collins Seawell (Ray), age 57, passed away from a heart attack on May 8, 2025. He was born January 4, 1968, in Smithfield, NC to Harris Ray Collins, Sr and Dianne Helms Capps.
For most of Rays life, he could regularly be found walking the streets of Selma with his signature Discman in hand, belting out classic rock songs (or at least the words he knew). He spent the majority of the 90s and early 2000s hanging out at the Selma pool or at a ball field in Smithfield, having become a spectator of sports instead of a player in his later years. He was an avid sports fan who consistently rooted for the winning team. His knowledge of sports and stats was unmatched. He could often tell you where every player had attended college and even their scoring stats. He loved wrestling and lived for Monday Night Raw. Ray knew everyone and everyone seemed to know Ray. As a family wed often joke that you could drop Ray off in the middle of Africa and hed likely know someone there too. He was the best uncle to his 4 nieces and would always speak fondly of them. He was a loyal companion to his mother his entire life, but especially over the last 11 years. To know Ray was to love Ray. Hes left a hole in our lives that will never be filled. He will be sorely missed.
Ray is survived by his mother, Dianne Capps; Brother, Joshua Seawell (Alicia); Sister, Greggan Huff (Tyler); and his favorite nieces in the whole world, Christian Keller (Dan); Michaela Foy (Jackson); and lastly Layla and Evangeline Huff.
Ray was preceded in death by his father, Harris Ray Collins, Sr; Uncle, Kenny Helms; Grandmother, Josephine Helms; Uncle, Ricky Helms; Stepfather, Gregg Capps; and Brother, Dustin Capps.
A memorial of life service will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Edgerton Memorial United Methodist Church, 401 W Anderson St, Selma, NC.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the church immediately following the service. Light refreshments will be served.
In honor of Ray, we ask that you wear your favorite sports jersey, gym shorts, or rock band t-shirt.
