Ray Lynn Shockley, 88, of Greenville went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
Born on February 14, 1937, in Greenville, he was married to his sweetheart of 67 years, Martha "Mott" Bost Shockley.
A loving husband, father, and Papa, he centered his life and family around his strong faith in God and his love of the church. A member of Enoree Baptist Church in Travelers Rest, he loved his church and his church family serving as Sunday School Director, Trustee, Deacon, and Deacon Emeritus.
Spending time with his family brought him the greatest joy. Together, he and Mott raised their only child and his "baby doll," Andrea, building a solid foundation for a tight-knit family. As patriarch of the family, his gentle presence and love were felt by those around him. Whether it was golfing with his grandson, Lloyd, or spending time with his granddaughter, Lexi, and his great grandsons, Jack and Wilder Ray, he showered them all with love and attention. He never missed Lloyd's golf tournaments and loved summers spent at Paris Mountain Country Club, helping instruct the junior golf program and calling bingo.
Known for being a "Grandpa" to everyone, he showed up and supported family and friends demonstrating the true meaning of serving others, being kind, and reflecting a positive attitude, regardless of the situation. A proud U.S. Army veteran, his life of service was reflected in his 15 years as a dedicated board member of North Greenville Food Crisis Ministry, eight years of service on the Greenville County Schools Board of Trustees, and through his work as a Mason and a Shriner. For most of his professional career, he worked in sales at Stone Manufacturing Co.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife are his daughter, Andrea Nelson (Lloyd Jr.); his grandchildren, Lloyd Nelson III (Meredith) and Lexi Zobrist (Yo); his great grandchildren, Jack Zobrist and Wilder Ray Zobrist; two brothers-in-law, John Bost (Kitty) and Jim Bost (Rosie); a sister, Rose Chambers (Bill) of Gray Ga., a brother, Scott Smith (Vickie) of Camilla, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Dr. Eddie Smith (Maryline) of Thomasville, Ga.; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nancy Bost Smith, and Ed Smith.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, 2025, in the sanctuary at Enoree Baptist Church, Travelers Rest. The funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. with burial in the church cemetery afterward.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Enoree Baptist Church, 881 Tigerville Road, Travelers Rest, SC 29690.
