With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ray Smith on May 8, 2024, in Boise, Idaho. Ray was born on September 1, 1939, in Twin Falls to Eldon and Anna Smith. He graduated from McCall High School then enlisted in the Army in 1961. He was also a successful entrepreneur, having founded and operated Rayco Transportation from 1990 to 2003, when he retired.
He was a devoted husband to Mary Smith and a loving father to his son, Robert Smith (Ryndi), and stepdaughter, Tami Miller. His love extended into his role as a grandfather to two granddaughters and as a great-grandfather to a great-granddaughter and a great-grandson.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon and Anna Smith, and his sister, Shirley, who passed away in 2014. He leaves behind a cherished legacy of love, resilience, and joy.
An avid dog lover, Ray also cherished the outdoors, whether he was fishing or hitting the golf course for a round of golf. He also enjoyed playing poker with his friends. These simple joys greatly enriched his life and brought happiness to those around him.
A ceremony to honor Ray's memory will be held at 1pm on Friday, June 7th, 2024, at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. Following the service, a reception with light food and drinks for friends and family will take place at the Waters Edge Event Center, 287 East Shore Drive, Eagle, ID 83616.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making donations in Ray's name to the Idaho Humane Society or the Boise Alzheimer Society.
Ray Eugene Smith's life was a testament to the power of simple joys and commitments. His memory will be forever cherished by all who knew and loved him.
