Raymond Bunton, known affectionately as 'Professor', 'Ray Man', and 'Yank Fank', was a man of distinction whose life was a testament to service, resilience, and the pursuit of knowledge. Born on January 31, 1961, in Austin, Texas, Raymond's character was shaped by the vibrant culture of his hometown. He lived a life full of love, laughter, and profound respect for his fellow man. In the words of Albert Einstein, "Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile", a quote that perfectly encapsulates Raymond's life journey.
Raymond's stellar career in the United States Army was marked by his unwavering commitment to his country and his fellow servicemen and women. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2012 and went on to serve veterans at the Federal Government's VA, continuing his lifelong commitment to service. His dedication to helping others did not stop at his professional life. Raymond was a proud member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, where he furthered his commitment to community service and brotherhood.
In his leisure, Raymond found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid music lover, a competitive dominoes player, a patient fisherman, and a voracious reader. His love for these hobbies made him a familiar and beloved figure among his friends and family. He is survived by his daughter(s), Brianna Bunton & Shantera Frazier, grandson(s) Anthony Lindsey & Elijah Johnson and his brothers Larry(Effie), Lee(Paulette), Stanley, and Calvin Bunton. He now joins his parents, Levi and Arthur Mae Bunton, and his sister, Gloria Fowler, in eternal rest.
A public visitation for Raymond will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 4:00 pm at Alice Taylor King Chapel, 1300 East 12th Street, Austin, Texas. His homegoing service will take place on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 11:00 am at Mt Olive Baptist Church, 1800 East 11th Street, Austin, Texas. The interment will occur on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas.
