Raymond William Carpenter, age 85, of Reva, VA, passed away February 1, 2026 at the home of his daughter after an extended illness. He was born May 23, 1940 in Culpeper, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Hazel Carpenter; 2 brothers, Garnett Carpenter and Harry Carpenter, sister, Virginia McDonald, and 2 grandchildren.
He was a retired bus driver for Madison County as well as a lifelong farmer. He loved tending to his cattle, chickens, turkeys and ducks.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Carpenter, as well as his children, Joey (Kay) Carpenter, Cindy (Cecil) Beeler, Debbie (Kelvin) McDaniel, Teresa Carpenter and Lisa (Gilbert) Lane. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters Mary Jane Seeling and Hazel Ann Dodson; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Pycha and Doris Carpenter.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026 at Mt. Carmel Church in Madison, VA, officiated by Keith Wagner. Due to weather conditions, a private family burial service will be held at a later date. The family requests that no flowers be sent, but instead a donation be made to Mt. Carmel Church. (Mt Carmel Church, 1735 W. Hoover Rd, Madison, VA 22727.)
