Raymond DeSautel Obituary

Raymond "Dizzy" DeSautel, 78, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Angela Hospice Care Center in Livonia, Michigan. Dizzy had numerous health issues over the years, including recurrent bouts of pneumonia. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in August, 2025.
Born on October 3, 1947, to Hank and Pauline (Stagner) DeSautel of Ann Arbor, Dizzy attended Mitchell Elementary, Tappen Junior High, and Ann Arbor High School. He proudly served in the United States Army as a tank mechanic at Fort Hood, Texas from 1968 – 1970.
Dizzy applied his interest in cars and mechanics to his work at B.J. Maynard Mower and Electric, and as manager of the machine shop at Loveland Auto Supply. He also worked for various auto salvage yards, earning him the nickname "Junkyard King" across the Whitmore Lake, Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Belleville, and Canton areas. Partnering with his sister, Dizzy fulfilled his life-long dream of opening his own store as co-owner of Dizzy's Used Auto Parts.
Dizzy's greatest passion was restoring classic cars. He was especially proud of his 1955 Chevy Bel Air which was featured in eight magazines and inspired a die cast hot rod car. He loved to talk about cars, and attended numerous classic car shows and cruises with his wife and friends. Dizzy also enjoyed taking car rides with Patty, steak dinners at Outback, Applebees, and the Big Bear Lodge, and gathering with friends at Leo's Coney Island.
Dizzy is survived by his devoted wife, Patty (Housewright), with whom he shared 54 years of life and 48 years of marriage. He is also survived by his sister, Wanda McComb, niece Paula McComb, great-niece Danielle McComb, sister-in-law Susan DeSautel, niece Sarah DeSautel, nephew Charles DeSautel, brothers-in-law Bill Morgan and Rick Housewright, and many long-time friends. Dizzy was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Henry DeSautel.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Nie Family Funeral Home in Ann Arbor (3767 W. Liberty Road). Family and friends are also invited to gather at the funeral home on Saturday, October 18, 2025, beginning at 11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Bethlehem Cemetery on Jackson Road following the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Diabetes Foundation in Raymond's name.

Dizzy and I had known each other since we were teenagers. I dated his friend and he dated mine. It was always a good time when we got together. And he was a family friend, as well. Being the car enthusiasts that he was, he and my brothers had their heads together over car restorations with beautiful results. It´s true that he was one of a kind. He was bigger than life and will be so missed. My deepest sympathies to Patty, Wanda, and everyone who loved this kind and crazy man. Rest In Peace, Dizzy.

My first boss at POP's Auto!! Taught me how to use the LATA lines lol, they were very confusing for a young lady!!!! Couldn't have asked for a better one. He made every day fun and the personal talks that helped me so much during those years. You will be forever missed.
