Raymond John Eckardt Sr., of Birnamwood, died on December 5, 2025 at his home under the care of LeRoyer Hospice. He was 97 years old. He was born on September 17, 1928 in Antigo, a son of Joseph and Katherine (Blossom) Eckardt. He married Beverly Servi on June 20, 1953 at St. John, Antigo. She preceded him in death on February 9, 2019.
Mr. Eckardt was a World War II Army Veteran having served in Japan.
Raymond worked in potatoes for Tony Kuezli. In 1958 he bought a dairy farm in the town of Aniwa where he later worked in Ginseng and in operating a Pheasant Farm with his son. He was also a milk hauler for 10 years for Antigo Co-op and drove bus for Malliette Bus Company for 6 years. He enjoyed hunting.
He was a member St. Philomena Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Darling-Gunderson American Legion Post 341, Birnamwood, and 24th Infantry Division Association.
Survivors include three daughters, Debra (David) Gonnering of Wausau, Julie (Leroy) Armstrong of Allen, TX, and Roxana (Joe) Steffens of Pickerel; three sons, Raymond Eckardt, Jr. of Birnamwood, Dale Eckardt of Jennings, and Steven Eckardt of Jennings; three grandchildren, Amanda (Eddie) Giannoni, Matthew (Cierra) Armstrong, and Brandon Janisewski; and four great-grandchildren, Logan, Mia, Luke and London.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Lyman Schafer; and four brothers, Lavern Sr., Joseph, Clarence and Melvin Eckardt.
A private service will be held.
