Raymond Funaro Obituary

Raymond John Funaro
March 30, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond John Funaro, age 84, of Northford on March 30, 2024. Ray was born in New Haven, son of the late Frank and Margaret Spinelli Funaro. Ray was a devoted husband, a loving father and cherished cousin, uncle and friend. He loved the outdoors, nature, and fishing. An electrician by trade, Ray retired from Amtrak where he helped improve the infrastructure for trains in the Northeast corridor. Ray enjoyed country music, was an avid reader, appreciated delicious food, and loved spending time with family and friends, all of whom will always remember his warmth and great sense of humor. In addition to Shirley (Kasprzycki), his wife of 59 years, he is survived by his children, Gina Funaro and her husband John DeChello of Hamden, Ray Funaro of Colorado and his grandchildren, Tevah and Phoenix Funaro. Ray was predeceased by his siblings, Frank Funaro and Phyllis Stanford. Ray proudly served his country in the US Army in Korea.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 4-7pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green, 662 Savin Avenue. On Friday, the funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:00 am for a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John Vianney Church of St. John XXIII Parish in West Haven at 9:30 am. Interment, with military honors, will follow in All Saints Cemetery. To leave an online condolence, please visit our website at www.westhavenfuneral.com.

My condolences to the Funaro family on the passing of Ray. We were classmates - and friends - at East Haven High School, but I can´t recall our reconnecting after graduation in 1957. I truly wish we had gotten together.
May your beloved husband, father and grandfather rest in peace.
