Raymond Garcia

HELPER - Raymond Garcia, age 88, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026 at The Heirloom Inn in Price.

He was born July 1, 1937 in Crested Butte, Colorado to Enrique and Socorro Soto Garcia.

He married his sweetheart, Neida Pacheco, on May 24, 1958 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper. Raymond was a longtime resident of Helper, an active member of the St. Anthony parish, and past member of The Knights of Columbus.

Throughout his life, Raymond was known by many as a tireless worker. He spent many years laboring in the local coal mines and eventually took on a position at Joy, where he worked for fifteen years prior to his retirement. Raymond was an active member of the UMWA, and was very proud of his coal miner roots.

In his younger years, Raymond enjoyed and excelled in sports and was an outstanding football and basketball player. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and community of friends.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 67 years, Neida; son, Raymond (Lorri) Garcia, Jr., Helper; daughter, Susan (Matt) Palmer, Layton; his five grandchildren, Chantel (Anthony) Quan, Jeremiah (Maria) Garcia, Felicia (Fernando) Otero, Sadie Palmer, and Kyle Palmer; eight great-grandchildren, Della, Angel, Emma, Parker, Hadley, Jeremiah Jr., Kaydence, and Maxlee; brother, Henry (Ester) Garcia, Salt Lake City; and sister-in-law, Pam Garcia, Helper.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Enrique and Socorro Garcia; sisters, Jean (Sam) Velis and Rose (Chris) Christiansen; and brothers, Gilbert and Edward Garcia.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Heirloom Inn for their compassionate care of Raymond and to CNS Hospice, especially Autumn, for their care during Raymond's final days.

Funeral Mass, Wednesday, January 21, 2026, 10:00 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church, Helper. Vigil service, Tuesday, January 20, 2026, 7:00 p.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church where the family will receive friends Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning one hour prior to services. Committal service, Mt. View Cemetery in Helper.
