Ray was quick with an anecdote, often with himself in the punch line. In one of my favorites from the many years we worked together at NBC, Ray, known at NBC as "the Silver Fox," strikes up a conversation with a fellow patron in his favorite venue, an Irish bar. Hearing the man's "Irish brogue," Ray asks where he's from.
"Tuam," the man says, referring to a town in the West of Ireland.
"Is that so?" Ray says. "I have a cousin in Tuam. In fact, he's the priest."
"Oh!" replies the Irishman, brightening. "You mean the Silver Fox!"
