Rev. R.C. "Chip" Hammonds was welcomed into the arms of our Lord on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the age of 65.
Chip was born to Morris G. "Gad" and Neva Hammonds on February 8, 1959 in Athens, Tennessee.
Chip met his wife, Tammy Hendon in 1976 while a student at McMinn Central High School. They went on to be married on September 29, 1978. They had one daughter, Emily Rose.
Chip dedicated 43 years to the paper industry at Bowater, now Resolute Forrest Products, where he retired in 2020.
A skilled carpenter, gifted musician, and avid golfer, Chip was the kind of person that was good at most everything he tried. He loved to make people laugh while sharing the gospel and added a humorous illustration or funny anecdote to nearly every sermon.
Chip accepted the call to preach at age 17, and went on to pastor 3 churches. At the time of his death, he was the Pastor of Farmland Community Church, in Cleveland, Tennessee.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, brothers Morris Hammonds and Bill Hammonds, fathers-in-law Bobby Hendon and Jerry Jones, brother-in-law Jim Constant, and nephew William "Dutch" Hammonds.
Chip is survived by his wife of 44 years, Tammy, daughter and son-in-law Emily and Jacob Buckles, brother Stanley Hammonds and his wife Jamie, sister Patty Constant, sisters-in-law Billie Rose Hammonds and Ann Hammonds, mother-in-law Norma Jones, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Chip's name to The Caring Place, 2400 Bower Lane, Cleveland, Tennessee 37312.
The family will receive friends at Companion Funeral Home, Cleveland, Tennessee on April 25, 2024 from 5-7pm with funeral to follow.
You are invited to share a personal memory of Chip or your condolences with his family at his online memorial located at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral Home of Cleveland and the Cody family are honored to assist the family with these arrangements.
