John Raymond Laughton, 84, of Beaufort, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at ECU Medical Center in Greenville.
Raymond honorably served his country as a Vietnam veteran in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he continued his dedication to public service through a career at Cherry Point, from which he retired. A man of enduring faith, Raymond was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Beaufort, where he remained an active part of the congregation throughout his life.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Beaufort with Pastor William Brummett Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Bayview Cemetery in Morehead City with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Thursday at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Floyd Laughton of Morehead City; daughter, Andrea Barefoot and husband, Kevin of Newport; son, Justin Laughton of Wilmington; grandson, Noah Barefoot of Newport; brother, Milton Laughton and wife, Mary of Beaufort.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mamie Laughton; and his siblings: George R. Laughton Jr., Faye Paul Cherry, Anna Lou Haskins, and Shelba Jane Spivey.
