Raymond "Ray" McNamara, a man who could light up any room with his humor and charm, passed away on February 21, 2025, at the age of 74-despite claiming to be 75, because, in true Ray fashion, he always found a way to keep people on their toes.
Born and raised in New York City, Ray was an old-school Irish man through and through-loyal, tough, fiercely protective, and always ready with a sharp wit and a good story. He carried his roots with pride, embodying the values of hard work, resilience, and an unshakable devotion to his loved ones.
Ray was a natural entertainer, a storyteller at heart, and a jokester by nature. He had an uncanny ability to make people laugh, whether through a well-timed joke, a mischievous prank, or one of his countless tales, which he loved to share with anyone willing to listen (and even those who weren't). His warmth and easygoing spirit made him a "regular" just about everywhere he went, from his favorite restaurants to his well-loved vacation spots.
A devoted family man, Ray took immense pride in being "Papa Bear," spoiling his daughter Devin and his son Shane and fiercely protecting those he loved. He was their biggest supporter in everything they did, especially their sports. Ray was the kind of Dad who never missed a game, who cheered the loudest from the sidelines, and who defended his kids with a fierce and unwavering dedication. Whether it was coaching, celebrating victories, or picking them up after a tough loss, he was always there, making sure they knew they had someone in their corner-both on and off the field.
But if there was one role Ray adored most, it was being a grandfather to his beloved grandson, Shane. After the heartbreaking loss of his own son-Shane's father-Ray stepped in without hesitation, becoming Shane's greatest protector, mentor, and guiding force. He poured his heart into ensuring Shane felt supported, loved, and safe, doing everything in his power to fill the void left behind. There was nothing Ray wouldn't do for him, and without a doubt, he will always be watching over him.
A defining relationships in Ray's life was the one he shared with his father. The two were inseparable, their bond unbreakable. Whether side by side at a family gathering, cheering on their favorite sports teams, or simply enjoying each other's company in quiet moments, Ray and his father were a team. Their relationship was built on love, respect, and a deep understanding that needed no words. Ray carried his father's wisdom and strength with him every day, and now, they are undoubtedly reunited, picking up right where they left off.
Above all, Ray loved his wife, Sheree endlessly. From the day they met, they were never apart, spending 44 wonderful years side by side. Sheree was the light of his life, his greatest joy, and his most cherished companion and care giver. Whether they were spending time on the beach together, sharing quiet moments over a home-cooked meal, or simply enjoying each other's company, Ray's love for Sheree was unwavering, deep, and everlasting. Sheree was his heart, his home, and the love story he was most proud to share.
Ray had a deep love for life's simple pleasures-cooking up delicious meals, his love for sweets, and enjoying the outdoors. Martha's Vineyard, beach vacations, golfing, and skiing were some of his happiest places. Whether watching sports, sharing stories, or simply being in the company of loved ones, Ray embraced every moment with enthusiasm.
To know Ray was to know someone who wanted others to laugh, feel welcome, and enjoy life as much as he did. His presence was magnetic, his heart generous, and his spirit unforgettable. Though he is no longer physically with us, his stories, his laughter, and his love will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him.
