Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stith Funeral Homes - Florence on Mar. 12, 2025.
Raymond Gerald Methvin, 74, of Burlington (KY) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. He was born in Cullman, Alabama, to his late parents, Oran and Mattie Methvin. He is preceded in death by; his beloved wife of 50 years, Diana Methvin (Toledo, OH), his sister Diane Broshious (Cullman, AL); and his brother, Jerry Methvin (Cullman, AL).
Raymond is mourned by his children, Amy Miles (Jeffrey) of Union (KY) and Raymie Barry (Bob) of (PA); his grandchildren, Madison, Gabrielle, and Sydney Miles, and Oran and Adalyn Barry; his sister Patricia Hamilton and his brother Euel Ray Methvin.
Raymond proudly served his country in the United States Army, with overseas service in Germany. He was an avid runner and earned the nickname "running man" from his small town of Genoa (Ohio) where he raised his family. Over the years, Ray enjoyed competing in hundreds of marathons. He even completed his dream run in the grueling Boston Marathon. Ray began working in the cotton fields of Alabama in his teens and eventually dedicated his career to Jeep. He worked as an automotive technician with the Jeep plant in Toledo (Ohio) where he served for over 35 years.
Ray was the most kind and gentle person you would ever of have had the pleasure to meet. His hobbies included running, classic cars, Alabama sports, and his family. With Ray, you never had to ask for help. He was the type of man that would see a need and lend his hand without ever offering. He didn't even need to know you to offer his assistance. After retiring, Ray was able to purchase his desired classic car 1962 Chevy Impala SS. He later traded up for his prized 1967 Chevy Camaro SS. He attended car shows almost every weekend in the warmer months. In the later years, as driving became a little tougher, Ray sought out good friends to drive him in the Camaro to the local shows.
Ray was also known to his immediate family and friends as "MR HOGG," another nickname he received from Genoa, where he held his annual Hog roast. This led to the Methvins being called the HOGG family. MR Hogg was a very loving father, his life revolved around his wife Dede and daughters Amy and Raymie. He later accepted into his life, as he called it "two more HOGG's." In Amy's 2000 wedding, Ray stated in his father of the bride toast "if you would know me personally, you would know that I would never give anything up. With my daughter Amy- I'm not going to give her up, I'm gonna take Jeff." Ray chose to extend this love to both of his son-in-law's. His love of family later blossomed with the addition of his five grandkids. Ray never missed a moment with his "grands" whether it was attending soccer games, cheerleading competitions, plays or even digging in the sand on a hot summer day at the beach. He always took the time for his family, and the HOGG family will forever miss you Ray.
Friends and family are invited to gather for a graveside service on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown, Kentucky. Stith Funeral Home is serving the family. Online condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.stithfuneralhome.com.
