Raymond Modjeski Obituary

Raymond L. Modjeski, 84, passed away peacefully in his home in Venice, Florida on Sunday, May 14, 2023. He was surrounded by his wife and three children during his final days, concluding his nine-year battle with cancer.

Ray was born in Hammond, Indiana, the elder of two children born to Leonard and Ann Modjeski.

Ray graduated from Western Illinois University, where he met the love of his life: Cathy. The two were married shortly thereafter and embarked on their journey through life together. Their union produced three children and included several relocations throughout the United States during his successful career which culminated as an executive leader in the consumer products industry. The couple retired and moved to Venice, Florida in 1996.

One of his early athletic passions was baseball, which he played into his adult years. He later passed on his love for the sport to a few grandsons, teaching them about the sport and sharing the secrets of his "mean" knuckleball. Ray was an avid golfer and enjoyed the camaraderie the sport offered... but, make no mistake, he wasn't there just for the friendship...he was out to compete! Ray was into cycling and taking long walks with his wife. He was also prone to sing along to the entire catalogue of his favorite musical performer: Frank Sinatra. Ray was truly "Superman" to his family!

A loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and devout Catholic; Ray took great pleasure and pride in the relationships he formed throughout his life. Along with the people in his life he so cared for, Ray contributed to his local and faith communities in numerous ways.

He had great respect and admiration for the staff of Florida Cancer Specialists who treated him throughout his illness. For those who cared for Ray over the years whom he may not have had the opportunity to share his appreciation with, the family says "Thank you" on his behalf.

Ray is survived by his family: wife (Cathy), three children (Michael, Lara, and Ellen), six grandchildren (Matt, Luke, Eric, Nick, Ryann, and Nolan), sister (Janine) and her children (Erica and Riley), Peter T., and a large number of extended family and friends - all of whom he loved dearly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Epiphany Cathedral Catholic Church in Venice, Florida at 10:00AM on Saturday, June 24, 2023. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Ray please make a charitable contribution to Moffitt Cancer Center (https://moffitt.org/). Arrangements under the care of Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Ewing Chapel.
