MINT HILL - On March 5, 2026, Raymond "Scott" Morgan, 59, of Mint Hill, NC passed away peacefully at Novant Presbyterian Main following a courageous battle against lung cancer. He is survived by his three daughters, Megan Belk (Tyler), Mckenzie Morgan, and Lindsay Morgan, in addition to his beloved granddaughter, Anne Stewart. Also, his sister, Lisa Moore (Brian), mother Rebecca Pruett (Howell), and father, Ray Morgan (Barbara). He is also survived by a niece, nephew, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins, including his beloved cousin Kimberly Poole, who was more like a twin sister than a cousin.

He graduated from Independence High School in 1986. His first job was at Pine Lake Country Club, but most of his career was spent in the HVAC industry. He worked for several companies in Charlotte, including Maye Heating and Air, Miller Contracting Services, and DAC Services. He did HVAC work on multiple CVS stores in North and South Carolina and attended Central Piedmont Community College to become certified in medical gas installation. Throughout his working career, he never turned down someone in need. When he was off work, he would go to the homes of relatives, friends and people he had met along the way, to work on their HVAC systems. His “side jobs” were not always lucrative as often he would “forget” to bill someone old or struggling financially. His heart always spoke first. Even when he started chemo three years ago, he would get calls while he was in treatment from co-workers that needed help diagnosing a problem.

He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed camping, hiking, rock climbing, and paddling in any body of water. He canoed and kayaked rivers all over NC, SC, and Virginia. He was enthralled with Three Sisters Swamp. His friends have described him as a “River Legend” and he will be missed by the many paddling communities he journeyed with. He had a vast collection of rocks found on his adventures which he gifted many to family and friends. He loved family history and exploring old church cemeteries were a major hobby and passion. He would get so excited whenever he discovered the grave of a distant ancestor. He leaves behind jars that look like sand but are the results of him enjoying a beer and panning for gold in area creeks.

Scott was famous for telling stories. His exploits of driving, occasionally exceeding the posted speed limit, were always entertaining. He always seemed on the ragged edge of encountering the law in his adventures but usually he got away with it. He did suffer from road rage and whoever rode in the car with him suffered as well.

In his own words from a Facebook post, “I love rivers mountains and beaches but most of all I love all of my girls and seeing smiles on there faces.” He was a single father for many years and enjoyed spending time with his daughters. He took them on many memorable adventures to beaches, Gold Hill, old forts, battlefields, canoeing, and more. He loved making S’mores with his granddaughter Anne. During our last snowstorm, he scared his twins to death doing donuts in the Food Lion parking lot. He also leaves behind his grand dogs, who made him smile his beautiful smile.

Scott was a humble man who did not need fancy things to enjoy life. He loved fiercely; when a family member or friend died, he took it the hardest. He lived generously. When he would receive a bonus, rather than spend it on himself, he preferred to take his girls to Academy Sports and buy things for them. It made him happy. He spoke simply. For him, “I gue-ess” meant yes and “Nah, man” meant no. He had a simple love for God and pursued Him in nature.

Scott spent the last three years of his life fighting cancer even though he was terrified of doctors, hospitals, and needles. He did this selflessly to continue to provide for his girls. In lieu of flowers, Scott would wish for monetary gifts to provide for his daughters and granddaughter. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 2:30 pm at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro, NC with his sister, Pastor Lisa Morgan Moore, officiating. Dress is casual so feel free to dress like Scott would. Interment will follow in Shiloh Christian Community Church Cemetery (formerly Shiloh United Methodist Church) in Morven. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday.
