Raymond Ellis Newby, 83, went to be with Jesus, the Lord that he loved with all his heart, on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from his home here where he was cared for by his family.
Mr. Newby was born in Augusta, Georgia on September 2, 1941, and was the son of the late Therion Ellis and Frances Louise Hardy Newby.
A retired Sergeant with the Miami Shores Police Department in Miami, FL where he served for 25 years, he was also a veteran of the United States Air Force, and since moving to the Arrowhead Beach community of Chowan County had been involved and faithful in his worship with Chowan Christian Fellowship.
Surviving is his wife of 19 years, Billie Jean Cornelius Newby; their children, Sherry Bodden and Timothy Newby (wife, Liana), both of Grimsby, Ontario; Kelly Jo Caroon (husband, Michael) of Windsor, and Philip Boedker of Galveston, TX; his sister, Jo Helen Harvey (husband, Larry) of Herndon, VA; seven grandchildren, Bre-Anne, Katie (husband, Mike Wiemelink), Mariah, Brooke (husband, Eric MacDonald), Joshua, Mikayla (husband, Logan Chapman), and Makensey; a loving and supportive nephew, Timmy Cutrell (wife, Pat); and his faithful canine companions, Sadie and Dixie.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 1st, at 11:00 a.m. in Center Hill Baptist Church, 943 Sandy Ridge Road, Tyner, NC 27980, and will be conducted by Pastors Tom Gregory and Russell Blanchard. Friends are invited to join the family in the church the hour prior to services.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the missionary fund of Chowan Christian Fellowship, in care of Thomas Gregory, 412 Happy Home Road, Tyner, NC 27980.
