Raymond Piaggi Obituary

Raymond Francis Piaggi, 87 of North Adams, MA died on Sunday December 12, 2021 at his home.

He was born in North Adams, MA on April 3, 1934, a son of William and Maria Adelina (Raina) Piaggi. He attended local schools and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1951. Ray was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the US Navy.

He worked at Gale Shoe Co., Arnold Print Works and Sprague Electric Co. before joining the US Postal Service where he worked in the North Adams Post Office for 25 years until his retirement in 1999.

He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, where he served as a Lector. Ray was a former member of the American Legion, the Eagles and the Retired Men's Club. He enjoyed bowling, cribbage and watching local high school basketball games. Ray especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

His wife was Lorraine (Trozzi) Piaggi who died on January 16, 2012. They were married on June 2, 1962 in St. Anthony of Padua Church. Survivors include two daughters- Donna M. Piaggi of Adams and Karen T. Gyurasz of North Adams and two sons- Christopher J. Piaggi of Olean, NY and John W. Piaggi of North Adams. He also leaves four grandchildren- Adrian Ziaggi (Max Drickey); Julian Ziaggi (Brenda Medina); Galen Ziaggi and Matthew Gyurasz; his former daughter in law- Ann Marie Zimmerman; his longtime companion- Patricia Stanislawski and nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandson- Ethan Piaggi-Cornell on July 28, 2016 and two sisters and three brothers are deceased including- Doris Doherty Privitera, Virginia Piaggi; Amedeo, Louis and Edmund Piaggi. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of HospiceCare in the Berkshires, Amedisys Nursing; and Berkshire Medical Center for their care and support.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Raymond Piaggi will be celebrated Saturday December 18, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview cemetery. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS CENTRAL CHAPEL, 74 Marshall St. North Adams, MA will be Friday from 3-5 PM. Memorial donations may be made to St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, HospiceCare of the Berkshires or the North Adams Council on Aging in care of the funeral home.
