Raymond Poor Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ricker Funeral Home & Cremation Care of Woodsville on Feb. 26, 2026.
Bath, NH – Long time resident of Bath, NH, Raymond Everett Poor, 85, passed away at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. He was born January 21, 1941, to Edward and Ruby Poor at Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover, NH.

He grew up in Swiftwater, NH with his parents and six siblings. Raymond married Mary Lesile Mitchell on August 1, 1959, they were married for 66 years. He was very involved in the Bath Congregational Church and served in many roles over the years.

Raymond was a hardworking man that was well respected in the local community. Over the years he worked in many different roles including time spent at the Bath Fiber Mill and Grafton Fuels in Haverhill. He later worked for Boudreault Plumbing & Heating during which time he obtained his Master Plumbing and Septic license. He finalized his career as the Road Agent for Bath, NH. After retirement he continued working in his own gravel pit and ran his own excavating business. In his younger years, he served as a volunteer firefighter for the Bath Fire Department and was one of the first New Hampshire Wildland firefighters to travel to California to help combat wildland fire. He also served as a Forest Fire Special Deputy Warden for the State of New Hampshire.

He enjoyed hiking, beekeeping, sugaring and planting a garden each year. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, though he never seemed to have as much time for them as he would have liked. Another favorite pastime involved searching old "dumps" for hidden treasures, often uncovering preserved antique bottles. At age 50, he earned his private pilot's license and proudly owned his own plane, a Cessna. Above all, he cherished his family, dogs, his horse "Buck", and various livestock.

Raymond had a gift for building just about anything he set his mind to. With the help of family and friends, he constructed his own home from a log cabin kit. Before long, it became apart the kit had only been a starting point, as he lovingly went on to support his children in many building projects to include their own homes. His talents reached far beyond houses. He crafted his own wood splitter and sawmill, built a go-cart that brought pure joy to his grandson and lovingly constructed a special doll house for his granddaughter.

Everything Raymond built carried a piece of him - his patience his ingenuity and most all his love.

He is predeceased by his parents; brother, Richard Poor; daughter-in-law, Heather Poor; and mother-in-law, Margaret Mitchell.

He will be remembered by his wife, Mary Poor; his daughter, Ronna and wife Tracey Johnson; his son, Jeffrey Poor and husband Dirk Brown; two grandchildren, Luke Poor and fiancé Ashley Williams; Meghan Fulford and husband Brandon Fulford; five great-grandchildren, Arya Kimball, Barrett Mason, Isabella Fulford, Abigail Fulford and Kathryn Fulford; sister, Virgina Englert; sister, June Wyman and husband Ken; brother, Robert Poor and wife Bonnie; brother, Roger Poor; sister, Linda Marsh and by his many nieces, nephews and friends.

Raymond was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle.

There will be a memorial service on March 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Bath Congregational Church located at 6 West Bath Road, Bath, NH.
