Raymond John Proch, known to all as Ray, passed peacefully in his sleep on November 13, 2024, at the age of 86, with his loving wife, Mary Catherine Proch, by his side. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Ray leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and laughter.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, on December 22, 1938, Ray was the son of Lottie and Adam Proch (both deceased). He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Hunt. After studying Business at Michigan State University, Ray began his career with Sears Roebuck in the truck tire division. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found Raybo Tire, a Firestone tire store in Marion, Indiana, with his lifelong friend Bill Otenbaker. Later, Ray moved to Florida and started Tire, Wheel, and Automotive (TWA) Firestone, where he continued to build his reputation as a savvy business owner and civic leader.
Ray was a man of exceptional character, known for his strong sense of integrity and his ability to make others laugh and feel valued. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be remembered for his kindness, his sharp wit, and the countless lives he touched throughout his life.
A devoted father to Gregory John Proch and Lisa Ann Handler, Ray was also the proud grandfather of Reid Joseph Handler, Alexandra Catherine Handler, Brian Gregory Proch, and Adam Joseph Proch. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Kelly Suzanne Proch. Ray was married to the love of his life, Mary Catherine Foley, for 65 years, after they fell in love at a high school basketball game. Together, they created a warm and loving family, always making time for family vacations and fostering a shared love of being on the lake.
Ray's devotion to family and his strong community ties made him a beloved figure to many. His contributions to both his profession and his local community will be remembered for years to come. His passing leaves a hole in the hearts of all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the memories of his humor, love, and the example he set as a husband, father, and friend.
A funeral mass will be held in Ray's honor at Our Lady of La Salette Catholic Church at 2941 Sam Nelson Road on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 10:00 AM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ray's life.
The caring staff of Darby Funeral Home is honored to serve the Proch family.

I want to express my condolences to Mrs. Mary and family in the loss of Mr. Ray. I met the couple earlier this year while performing hme visits at their assisted living facility. Mr. Ray was always pleasant and kind, and even when he wasn't feeling well, he always managed to find something that we would laugh about. I consider both of them as my friends Mrs. Mary has been a faithful companion and I know she misses him most of all. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. The world can use more men like Mr. Proch!
