Raymond Paul Rainey

Raymond Rainey, beloved son, brother, and gifted musician, passed away at the age of 50 years old and 7 months. Born on December 8, 1974, in Bremerton, Washington, Raymond was the youngest of six children born to retired Master Sergeant Clyde Rainey and Edna Lula Rainey. He was also the cherished twin brother of Benjamin James Rainey, arriving 11 minutes after his brother at 8:11 p.m.

Raymond grew up in Tacoma, Washington, where he developed an uncanny knowledge of the city's bus routes-he knew them all by heart. From birth, Raymond lived with Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome, a condition that brought physical challenges, including heart, kidney issues, and a life expectancy of 50 years old. Despite predictions from doctors that he would never speak, see, or live independently, Raymond defied every expectation by the grace of God.

He was blessed with the extraordinary gift of perfect pitch and could play anything he heard. Music was his passion and his language. He played the piano beautifully and pursued his musical education at Hope University in Anaheim, California, as well as the Performing Arts Center in Inglewood, California.

In his later years, Raymond's health made him more vulnerable, and he chose to stay close to home, surrounded by family. In September 2024, his sister retired to become his full-time caregiver, a role she had embraced in various ways for more than 30 years. The bond they shared was unshakable-built on mutual care, love, and compassion.

Raymond's life was a testimony to resilience, intelligence, and joy. He had a quick wit, a clever mind, and a heart full of compassion. He brought light, excitement, happiness, laughter, and music into every room he entered. Though he faced many health challenges, he never let them define him. Instead, he cared for others-especially his sister-with protection, quiet strength, and unwavering love.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Edna, and is survived by his siblings: Clyde, Claretta, Edgar, Carl, and his twin Benjamin, along with a host of extended family members, friends, and all those whose lives he touched with his music, joy and kindness.

Raymond's life was a gift to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of music, love, and joy will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
