Raymond Rivera, Jr., age 63, of Hawley passed away peacefully in his sleep at home after an unexpected illness on Monday, May 27, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Gail B. (Bourdeau) Rivera.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters: Jennifer Diaz of Tucson, AZ, Elizabeth Shoemaker of Charleston, SC, Barbara Hertzog of Nazareth, PA and Selina Morelli of Greenville, SC; two siblings: sister, Philomena Valentin of Bronx, NY; and brother: Angel Louis Reyes of Bronx, NY.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Valentin-Baker.
Raymond was born in Manhattan, NY, and was the son of the late Raymond and Angela Valentin (Caban) Rivera Sr. He resided in Long Island, New York, before moving to Pennsylvania. Before retiring Raymond was employed for over 15 years with Walmart. His career started at the Honesdale Walmart in the year 2001. He was promoted numerous times throughout the years until he reached his final goal of being promoted to a co-manager position at Walmart in Catskill, NY. As part of his duties, he was in charge of Walmart's public relations within the community. He was honored to accept an invitation to become a member of the Catskill Elks Club.
Outside of work Raymond enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed salsa music, baseball, fishing, camping, animals and the annual family vacation in Myrtle Beach, SC. Ray with his wife by his side loved to travel throughout the United States, visiting historical sites and traveled to other countries; Bahamas, Jamaica, Brazil, Mexico, and Canada to experience their cultures and food.
Ray was a people person. He was outgoing, friendly, caring and always willing to help somebody in need. He loved to teach and recognize people. He always had a positive attitude and friendly smile. Raymond was the life of almost any party or function he attended with his humorous unique character and salsa dancing moves. He will be deeply missed.
Memorial service will be held at the Hawley United Methodist Church, 315 Maple Ave., Hawley, on Thursday, August 1. The visitation will be held from 6 PM to 7:15 PM followed by a committal ceremony.
