Raymond Brian Smith, 59, of Amarillo, passed peacefully in his home on January 7, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family.

The family will receive guests on Sunday, January 12, 2025, from 1 pm to 5 pm at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home's Brentwood Chapel on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 2 pm. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery East.

Raymond Brian Smith was born on January 12, 1965, in Amarillo, Texas to R.B. and Zelda (Saunders) Smith. He attended Amarillo public schools and graduated from Palo Duro High School.

Raymond was a hobbyist and loved adventure. His favorite place to be was outside. Rather he was fishing, riding his ATV or Four Wheeler, or just sitting by a camp fire, nothing brought him more joy than the great outdoors.

Raymond was a self-proclaimed “King of Fishing”. He collected and even made many of his own fishing lures. He was very proud of his collection and had it displayed in his home along with several of his favorite poles. Raymond also enjoyed everything Remote Controlled. From planes, to boats and cars, and more recently Drones, if it could be built and controlled, Raymond was into it. He even dabbled a little in gunsmithing. He had countless metal military issued containers full of every kind of ammunition. He often received ammunition as a gift from his family for special occasions because that is what he told them to get him. He enjoyed reloading ammo, refurbishing firearms, and even more so, shooting them. Raymond was also a dirt track racing enthusiast. He had many friends who would call on him to run their pits and spent many nights under the hood of cars getting them ready for that week’s race.

Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Loopy, nephew Daniel Smith, and sister in law Rhonda Smith. Those left to cherish his memories are his sister Connie Latham, brothers, Butch Smith and wife Jackie, Bill Smith and wife Sissy, and Charles Smith. Raymond also leaves his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends.
