Stephen Lee Rohde, 79, of Amarillo, passed peacefully on February 3, 2026.
A celebration of Stephen's life will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 2 pm at Polk Street Methodist Church, 1401 S. Polk, with Reverend Lesly Broadbent and Reverend Katie Hill officiating. Burial will be private.
Stephen was born on June 19, 1946, in Neosho, Missouri to Martin and Ruth (Wilson) Rohde. He graduated from Pittsburg High School in Kansas and later attended Pittsburg State College. He completed his education at The University of Texas at Austin Law School obtaining his Law Degree and set off on his career path.
He practiced law in Austin for several years prior to relocating his family to Tulia, Texas in the Panhandle where he opened and operated his own law practice until his recent retirement. Stephen was the City Attorney in Tulia where he became a pillar of the small Swisher County community. He served on the Tulia ISD School Board, was a member of the Kiwanis Club of the High Plains, and devoted member of the Tulia Methodist Church. If you lived in Tulia, odds were you knew or at the very least knew of Stephen. He truly loved his little community and was so proud to have raised his family there.
Stephen was also a dedicated family man. He was an incredible provider, a wonderful husband, and the best father. When he and Susie married at the WTAMU Campus Chapel on January 10, 2008, he became Grandpa Steve as well. After they married Stephen moved to Amarillo to be with his new bride, making the daily commute to his law office back in Tulia. Susie and Stephen rode their motorcycles all over the country together, after Susie taught him how to ride at 60 years old. They were a house divided with Stephen being a diehard UT Longhorn and Susie being a diehard Texas Tech Red Raider. He would wear Tech shirts to show his love, but he bled burnt orange. Stephen and Susie attended Polk St Methodist Church where they were involved in several groups within the church. Stephen loved and cherished every single member of his family. From his sons Grant and Clark with his first wife who preceded him in passing, to his inherited family of Susie’s children Marissa and Miles, Stephen cherished them all.
Stephen is preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife and mother of his children, Debra Rohde. Those left to cherish his memories are his second wife, Susie Akers, daughter, Marissa Mackay (Matt), sons, Grant and Clark Rohde, and Miles Smith (Paege), sister, Mary Ann Thompson, brother, Drexel Rohde; six grandchildren, Kate, Jack, Luke, Mayer, Maeve, and Margot, nieces, Amy and Cindy, and nephews, Carew and Tyson, and many beloved extended family and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Meals on Wheels of Amarillo at 7550 Outlook Dr., Amarillo, Tx 79106 or Polk Street Methodist Church at 1401 S Polk St., Amarillo, Tx 79101.
