Raymond John Steer, III (RJ) of Mt. Pleasant, SC passed away tragically on Friday, May 17, 2024 at the age of 29.
Born in Richmond, Virginia, RJ and his family relocated to Ocean Township, NJ in 1997 where he spent the majority of his life. RJ quickly made many friends through his charismatic personality and athletic talents. RJ was an avid hockey player and a Little League All Star. RJ attended Christian Brothers Academy where he excelled academically and athletically. He served as Co-Captain of the ice hockey team, with the crowning achievement of winning the coveted Gordon Cup against Delbarton in his senior year. RJ was given the CBA Ice Hockey Coach's Award and the MVP award during his four years there as a defenseman. He was also named to the Atlantic District team while playing travel hockey, and was selected to the NJ Devils Non-Public HS All-Tournament Team two years in a row. RJ continued his studies at the University of South Carolina, graduating in 2017 with honors while achieving a double major in Finance and Marketing, and a minor in Spanish. Shortly after graduation, RJ became a permanent resident of South Carolina, moving to Mt. Pleasant. RJ was incredibly proud of his professional growth and continued achievements. RJ became a VP at Charles Schwab while also achieving his Certified Financial Planner accreditation. Most recently, he was studying to take the Certified Private Wealth Advisor (CPWA) exam, which we're sure he would have passed with flying colors!
RJ was a truly special human with his own brand of humor. He loved fiercely and lived passionately. It goes without saying that hockey was a large part of RJ's life, but he had so many other interests. He absolutely loved his soulmate, the person that completed him, his forever, his Jamie. He loved the time he spent with Jamie, their adorable puppy, Luci, and all his friends and family. RJ was an avid runner, completing multiple 5Ks, 6 half-marathons, and 2 full marathons. He absolutely loved grocery shopping and cooking with Jamie. He loved playing golf. He loved having his weekends full of hangouts with friends and family. He loved traveling and was always ready for his next adventure.
RJ is predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Raymond (Sr) and Katherine Steer, and his maternal grandparents Larry and Connie Danley, and his aunt Linda Steer.
RJ is survived by his adoring parents, Ray (Jr) and Debbie Steer; his devoted, long-time girlfriend, Jamie Fecio; his big sister Courtney (Eckman) and her husband Brett; his little brother Michael; his uncle and aunt, Terry and Sandy Steer; his cousins, Jarrett and Kerrie Steer; his uncle, Duane Danley; and an amazing array of extended family members.
A visitation will take place on Sunday May 26, 2024 at Ely Funeral Home in Neptune, NJ from 12pm to 4pm. A service will take place at Ely Funeral Home on Monday May 27, 2024 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to interests special to RJ – Monmouth County Fulfill Food Bank or the Devils Youth Foundation (NJ).

I only recently became acquainted with RJ through the South Carolina Schwab office. He was knowledgeable, patient, and kind. He had a quietly calming presence and answered my questions, gave me advice, and eased my mind. I was anticipating a long and pleasant business relationship with him. He achieved so much in his short life. He will be greatly missed.

I met RJ in the Schwab office a few years ago. He has been my main contact with Schwab ever since, and he did an outstanding job for me. He was so knowledgeable, and so very patient, helping me wade through so many big and little decisions, I really enjoyed working with him. My heart goes out to his family, and his girlfriend (I don't know your name but he often spoke of you fondly) and his dog, too. I'm sure you all miss him terribly. I will miss him, too.
