Raymond J. Therrien
Raymond J. Therrien, 88, of Saco and formerly of California, passed away with prostate cancer Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Seal Rock Healthcare in Saco.
He was born in Barton, Vermont on November 16, 1936, a son of Henri and Maria (Perrault) Therrien.
In his early teen years, Ray was employed by Bates Manufacturing and Allied Shoe. He moved to Middletown, Connecticut at 19 years old, started his family and worked for Pratt & Whitney. Moving to the west coast, Ray would then spend the next 47 years of his life in southern California. He was employed as a custodian in the Brea school district and then as a maintenance and custodian of the Palm Springs Follies Theater, where he would retire in May of 2000. In his last 10 years in California he was well cared for by his nieces Rosemarie and Carmen.
When time permitted Ray would do lots of woodworking. For many years he crafted wood pieces into beautiful art with his Scroll Saw. Some of his projects are still being enjoyed by family today.
He spent seven years in traveling ministry throughout France sharing the Word of God & praying with so many. This, he spoke of with humbleness, a calling that lead him to witness many healings. In Ray's own written words, "I give all the honor and praise to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We prayed, He healed and that deserves a big Amen!" Ray enjoyed reading his Bible and often spoke of the moment he would meet Jesus.
In 2021, he returned home to Maine to be with his brother Bob and family. In these last 3 years he enjoyed living in his own apartment, helping at the Saco Meals Program at Most Holy Trinity Church, taking a cruise with his family, eating ice cream, going for long rides with his brother and being around extended family. His niece, Louise taught him to cook for the first time at 86 years old and cared for him with the help of her husband Marc in his final years in Maine. He was loved and will be missed.
He was predeceased by one son Thomas Therrien, his parents and 8 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his daughter Janet Acampora, his son William Therrien and six grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings Robert Therrien of Saco and Lorraine Shattuck of Idaho, and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be from 11AM-1PM Thursday, January 23, 2025, with a Funeral Service at 1PM at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, 87 James Street, Saco. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco. To view Raymond's memorial page or leave an online condolence, please visit www.cotefuneralhome.com
