Raymond Lee Werner

Raymond Lee Werner, affectionately known as, "Mr. Ice," a long-time resident of Conroe, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on October 8, 2023, at the age of 78 while pursuing his passion in Plantersville, Texas.

Raymond is survived by his two loving sons, Cris Werner and wife Andrea, and Kyle Werner and wife Blace. He leaves behind the legacy of seven cherished grandchildren and his older brother, Melvin Werner. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Werner and Emma Fischer Werner, and his brother, Allen Werner.

Raymond, or Ray, as he was known to friends and family, was born on June 17, 1945, in Sisterdale, Texas. He graduated from Blanco High School in 1963, embarking on a remarkable journey that exemplified dedication and service. In 1964, he joined the United States Navy, where he displayed unwavering commitment, serving two tours in Vietnam and fulfilling duties in the Antarctic.

Raymond was exceptionally proud of his service to his country and the United States Navy. He was a member of US Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Four and earned several medals and distinctions, including the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Antarctic Service Medal. His accomplishments in the Navy were marked by his outstanding achievements, graduating first in his class of seven in A School and second out of ten in C School. Ray was a true veteran of the Vietnam War and took great pride in being a Seabee, symbolizing his dedication to service and hard work.

The skills and values Ray acquired during his military service became the cornerstones of his life. These qualities served him well in his career in air conditioning and refrigeration, where he worked for many years. His commitment to excellence, precision, and a strong work ethic were evident in every project he undertook.

Not only did Ray excel in his profession, but he also shared his knowledge generously, particularly with his two sons, Cris, and Kyle. He passed on not only the technical expertise but also the values of hard work, dedication, and integrity, instilling in them the same principles that guided his own life.

In addition to his military service and professional accomplishments, Ray spent nearly 40 years as the sole ice distributor to the Texas Renaissance Festival, ensuring the enjoyment of countless festivalgoers over the years. His legacy is one of patriotism, dedication, and a strong work ethic, as well as the nurturing of future generations in the family.
