Ronald "RC" Clifford Hayes, 86, of
Idaho City, Idaho, passed away on February 9, 2026. He was born on November 23, 1939, in
Sacramento, California, and grew up in Fort Bragg, California, as an only child.
RC spent his life building-quite literally. A lifelong concrete construction worker, he dedicated himself to his trade with pride. He never truly retired, continuing to work in construction throughout his life.
After graduating from high school, he lived in several cities across California, including North Fork, before eventually settling in
Idaho City, Idaho, where he made his home and became a familiar, respected member of the community.
In October of 1980, RC married the love of his life, Marie Hayes. Together, they shared 45 years of marriage, building a life centered on hard work, loyalty, and family. He was a proud father to four children: Wendy, Tambara, Julie, and Ronald.
RC had a deep appreciation for the simple, rugged pleasures of life. He loved poker games, shooting guns, boxing, and western movies. He had a fondness for classic cars, cowboy living, and working cattle. Fishing brought him peace, and mornings always found him enjoying coffee and conversation with friends at Leon's or the Sinclair gas station in Idaho City.
He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, a member of the National Beef Cattle Association, and a member of the Contractors Association-organizations that reflected both his personal interests and professional dedication.
RC is preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Margaret Moranda, and his father, Clifford Edward Hayes.
RC is survived by his wife, Marie Hayes (Idaho City); daughters Wendy Vanderburgh (Mountain Home), Tambara Hayes (Petaluma), and Julie Hayes; son Ronald Hayes; and grandsons Mike Vanderburgh (Idaho City), Joey Vanderburgh (Idaho City), and Randy Vanderburgh (Shelley).
RC will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his steadfast nature, and his love of family and community. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
