Rea Cooley Allsop

Rea Cooley Allsop, 87, of Murray, Utah, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025, in Murray, Utah. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Rea’s life was defined by her unwavering love for family and faith. She was born on January 14, 1938, in Panguitch, Utah to a family whose values of kindness and devotion she carried throughout her life.

Rea shared 64 wonderful years with her beloved husband, Clifford Leon Allosp, with whom she built a strong family foundation. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home in Murray and cherished countless family gatherings at their cabin on the North Fork of the Duchesne River in the High Uintah Mountains. She was known for her remarkable ability to have heartfelt, sometimes difficult, life conversations that always fed to greater lover and harmony within her family.

She found joy in family traditions, especially her annual St. Patrick’s Day dinner, where every dish – dyed green- was served in celebration. Rea loved to decorate for each holiday. Her home was filled with decorations throughout the entire house. If you came at Christmas time, you would be a recipient of her wonderful candy plates, a family tradition that continued though her life.

Another annual tradition was the making of her famous hot sauce. Each year, she would make delicious salsa made from fresh vegetables grown in their garden. This 2-day event would fill her home with smells of onions and hot peppers. It was enjoyed by friends and family throughout the year.

Rea had many hobbies in her lifetime. One of her favorites was archery. Rea and Leon were some of the founding members of Datus Archery, which became a wonderful family project. She also loved to paint. Whether it was wooden nutcrackers, or ceramic figurines, she filled her home with special memories. Another wonderful hobby was quilting. She learned how to quilt from her mom. If there was a wedding or baby being born, up would go the quilt. This tradition lives on through her legacy.

Rea loved to play card games and board games. And she played to win. If you were lucky enough to beat her at a hand of cards, you relished it with delight.

A faithful and devoted member of her ward family, Rea strengthened many lives through her kindness and service. She has served in many leadership positions. She was a faithful ministering sister, to women she has known for 30+ years. She was thinking of them until the end.

The family would like to recognize the wonderful care that Rea received from the A Plus, hospice workers. We are grateful for the love, support and kindness that was shown during those last weeks.

Rea is survived by her children, John (Carrie) Allsop, Manti, Utah; Joan (Todd) Hardcastle, Midvale, Utah; and Connie Allsop (Kevin Capson), West Jordan, Utah; 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; her sisters; Elva Robins, Arlene (Randy) Bartholomew, and brother, Ted (Jackie) Cooley, and her sister in law, Linda Isbell. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Leon Allsop, parents, brothers William (Bill), Ken, DeVere, and sisters Verda and Carroll and her grandson, Kyle Trammell.

Funeral services will be held on January 3, 2026, at the Midvale Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 97 West 7500 South, Midvale, Utah, 84047. The viewing will be held from 11 - 12, and then funeral service from 12 - 1 pm. Rea’s living legacy continues in the lives of those she influenced. Grandma Rea will be dearly missed.
