Our sweet dad and grandpa, James Owen Ault, returned to be with his beloved wife Christy on Friday, December 26th, 2025 at the age of 72.

Born August 17, 1953 to Louis and Donna Ault, dad grew up in Midvale, Utah with three sisters and one brother. He spent his younger years riding motor bikes, horseback riding, hunting, working at the family ranch and spending countless hours in Cedar Fort and Ophir, Utah.

Some of dad’s most important life-long friendships were made while he was a self-employed truck driver. He earned awards for his driving skills and later passed those skills on to his students as a teacher at CR England where he taught for more than 20 years.

Dad graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1971 where he met his sweetheart, Christy May, whom he made his eternal companion on June 22, 1973 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were originally blessed with four children but since dad never considered his kids’ or grandkids’ spouses as in-laws, he had four additional children along with nineteen grandchildren.

You can hardly mention Jim without also mentioning Christy. His world revolved around her. Even by death they couldn’t be separated for long. His selfless, loving care of her, especially the last few years of her life, is one of the greatest examples he leaves behind for us to treasure. Amid the heartbreak we all also have joy knowing they’re together again.

The most important things to dad were the gospel of Jesus Christ and his family. He never wavered in his testimony of the Savior and was an example of Him as he quietly served people in many different ways, including providing food for his students at CR England when he knew someone had none or dropping everything to help one of his kids. Some of his last words to his children before his passing testified of Jesus Christ.

Dad loved being with the family and was always up for any adventure. He was our hero. Never one to complain or talk badly about anyone, his calm and loving demeanor made him a joy to be with. Our lives were so very blessed by him.

Our hearts are filled with gratitude for a loving Heavenly Father & his perfect plan of happiness. Because of His son, Jesus Christ, we know we will see both dad and mom again.

Jim is survived by his children Joshua Ault (Tammy), Andrew Ault (Jennie), Samantha Hoffman (Samuel), Jesse Ault (Aubry); grandchildren, Oliver (Alhana), Isaac, CJ, Hollie, Abram, Ethan, Malerie, Whitley, Joel, Meric, Brynn, Kenzie, Vanessa, Delsa, Eliana, Calvin, Luke, Clara; and siblings LuDonna Oakes (Mark), Linda Giles (Allen), Irene George (Ron) and Mark Ault (Diane). He is preceded in death by his wife Christy and parents Louis and Donna Ault.

A viewing for Jim will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026 from 9:30-10:45 am at the Midvale 5th Ward LDS Church Building, 8171 South Jackson Street. Funeral services will be held at the same location immediately following the viewing. He will be laid to rest at the Memorial Mountain View Cemetery.
