Rebeca C Bernard

Rebeca C. Bernard, age 81, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Upstate Community Hospice House in Landrum, surrounded by the peace of God's loving presence.

Born on September 26, 1944, in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Rebeca was a daughter of the late Germania Castañeda and Efrèn Freire.

Rebeca had a remarkable career as a flight attendant and was one of the first Latin American flight attendants in the industry - a trailblazer who opened doors for others and carried her heritage with pride wherever she traveled.

A devoted Catholic, Rebeca lived her life grounded in prayer, humility, and compassion. Her love for the Blessed Mother and the Holy Rosary brought her great comfort and strength, and her faith was a guiding light through every season of her life.

She is survived by sons, Raphael Bernard and Joseph Bernard; brother, Cesar Baux; sister, Flor Baux; grandsons, Gavin and Dante Bernard; nieces, Cynthia Baux, Jamie Baux, Amy San Martin, and Barbara Baux; and special friends, Sordelina and Michael Mitchell.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Carroll Bernard, and niece, Velia Guevara.

The family will receive friends on Thursday January 15, 2026, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Jesus Christ Our Risen Savior Catholic Church.

Rebeca will be laid to rest at 1:00 PM at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
