Rebecca P Bankston, affectionately known as Becky, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 6, 2023, at her residence. She was born on Thursday, August 5, 1943, in Fayetteville, TN. Throughout her life, she exemplified qualities of strength, perseverance, and dedication to her family and loved ones.
Becky had a fulfilling career working alongside her husband Joe at Bankston’s Auto Sales. Their partnership was a testament to their shared values of hard work and commitment to excellence. Together, they built a prosperous business while nurturing a loving family environment.
Education played an important role in Becky's life. One of her Hazelgreen, AL high school basketball coaches was none other than George Lindsay himself. This experience instilled in her a sense of discipline and teamwork that she carried throughout her life.
While Becky was known for her strong work ethic, it was her unwavering devotion to her family that truly defined her. She dedicated herself to the well-being of those she loved, always putting their needs before her own. Her caring nature extended not only to immediate family but also to a wide circle of friends who were fortunate enough to experience her kindness and generosity.
In addition to her remarkable personality traits, Becky had a passion for gardening. Her love for flowers was evident in the immaculate flower gardens she cultivated with great care. She found solace and joy intending to her plants and creating vibrant spaces filled with beauty and tranquility.
On the matter of family and friends, Becky cherished the memories shared with them. She is predeceased by her dad Vernon Wimberly, who she looked to as parents were stepdad J. C. Bishop and mother Odel. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of over 60 years, Joe Bankston; daughter Carmen Moorehead (Jason) of Jackson, TN and son Dwain Bankston (Renee) of Jackson, TN ; brother Mike Bishop of Lewisburg, TN; brothers Don Wimberly of Hazelgreen, AL and Randy Wimberly of Meridianville, AL; sister Linda Bridges of Albertville, AL; grandchildren Brandon Bankston (Anna), Allison Bankston, Hayden Moorehead, and Addy Moorehead; as well as her great-grandchildren Emma, Maddox, and Nolan. She was also preceded in death by a brother Ricky “Bud” Bishop.
SERVICES: To honor her life and memory, visitation services will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Arrington Funeral Directors and Crematory. A funeral service will follow on Wednesday, October 11th at 2:30 p.m., also at the Arrington Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Becky's passing leaves a deep void in our hearts, but we find solace in the cherished memories and lessons she has left behind. Her unwavering spirit and gentle soul will forever be remembered by those whose lives she touched.
