Rebecca "Becky" Susan Dunn Schwem, 74, of
Deer Park, Texas passed away unexpectedly into the gracious arms of Jesus on May 20, 2024. Born in
Houston, Texas on November 12, 1949, to James Martin Dunn and Doris Dunn, Becky lived a long, full life of love, laughter, lyrics and lots of little ones. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Sharon Harris, her great niece, Kylee Piersol, and survived by her sisters Beverly Reese, Diane Eichenburg and Kim Staton.
Rebecca leaves behind her husband of 57 years whom she affectionately referred to as her boyfriend, Lonnie Schwem. They were high school sweethearts who held hands everywhere they went. If you crossed Rebecca or her children, you knew she meant business when she said, "You better be glad my husband isn't here!" Lonnie loved Rebecca and tried to tell her what she meant to him by writing troves of love letters to her. If Lonnie was running errands, she couldn't wait for him to return. Together, they had ten children; Tiffany Tidwell, Tracey Esquivel, Adam Schwem, Natalie Wilkerson, Jessica Housewright, Justin Schwem, Jake Schwem, Suzanna Schwem, Shelby Schwem, and Glenn Schwem, as well as 29 grandkids and 14 great grandkids. Every new baby was like Christmas morning to her and was convinced they were the cutest, smartest kids on the block.
When Rebecca was a little girl, you could often find her in the front yard, lining up her baby dolls to play with because she wanted nothing more than to be a momma. She was a gifted ballerina, tap dancer, and singer who had more rhythm in her pinkie finger than all of us combined. She was brilliant and even skipped a grade in high school.
If you're wondering if you met Becky, you didn't because you would absolutely remember. She had a very charismatic personality and loved fiercely. If you wanted a debate, you had better believe, you got a debate. And if there was a winner, you probably weren't it. If you needed a talking to, you better sit there patiently (for a couple of hours) and take your lesson. If you wanted a deep and meaningful conversation, you got tickets to the front row and you never paid for admission.
Becky spent most of her time checking in to see what the latest goings-on were in the family. She always wanted to be the first one to hear the news of the dance recital, the ballgame, the job interview, and all of life's trials and tribulations that you may be going through at the time. And that's only if she couldn't be there in person. Becky never cut you short on the phone even if the chicken-and-dumplings that she worked hours to prepare were burning on the stove. To her, the conversation was way more important than any meal she could prepare. She was a devout Christian who loved to study her Bible and theology and you could tell who needed the most prayer by opening her Bible and seeing who was on the top of her list. It was usually her husband, Lonnie.
She loved watching wholesome things on YouTube with her husband, like furniture flipping and DIY projects. Any time you visited, make no mistake, you were going to watch her current favorite clip.
Becky loved her children, but her grandkids really held her heart. She was happiest when she could gift a new doll for a granddaughter, cheer for her grandsons at sporting events, having marathon phone calls, or a birthday lunch. She was just happy if they were happy. Becky had an infectious laugh and thought her kids were comedians when she traded one-liners back and forth until the cows came home.
In 2003, Lonnie and Becky were baptized in the Christian faith at Sagemont Church in
Houston, Texas. Becky became not only a follower, but a student of Christ, and went on to service the Children's Ministry. She loved biblical theology, listening to her favorite pastors like John McArthur, or jamming out to gospel music from Gaither Vocal Band. There was rarely a conversation with Becky that didn't include a reference to God's mercy & grace. She longed for all of her kids to be saved by Christ before she left this Earth.
Because of Becky's salvation, her love of Christ, and her relentless passion to share the Gospel with everyone she spoke to, she is now in Heavenly paradise with Jesus, countless family members and even a baby she never got to meet on this side of Heaven. She will be missed by many, but the extension of her life lives through so many that will carry on her legacy in the lives of their own, their children, their grandchildren, and those who haven't yet made it to this world. May she rest in heavenly peace.
Good night. God bless you. We love you. Sweet dreams, Becky, Mom, Grammy.
