Send FlowersRebecca Jane Gryczko, 54, of Waverly Township, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in Regional Hospital of Scranton.
Born in William Beaumont Army Medical Center in Fort Bliss, Texas, on March 25, 1971, she was the daughter of Dr. Gerald and the late Rebecca (Tebbetts) Gryczko. Rebecca graduated from Mt. Pocono High School and worked in a variety of roles throughout the community, most notably accompanying her mother in her work with young children at United Cerebral Palsy (UCP).
Rebecca had an infectious laugh matched by her quick wit and great comedic timing. She loved caring for little ones, especially her nieces and nephews. She was a sports fanatic and enjoyed cheering on Penn State, the Phillies, and the Eagles. She was good-natured and loved by all. Despite the challenges of her intellectual disability, Rebecca showed tremendous resilience, always determined to keep up with her siblings, whether on the driveway basketball court or moving out on her own to live in a group home.
She was preceded in death by her mother and an infant sister, Adrienne Gryczko.
Surviving, in addition to her father, are three sisters, Larisa Gryczko Avellaneda, Baltimore, Md.; Margaret Lamoreaux and Richard Lamoreaux, York; and Elizabeth Gryczko Drazien and Todd Drazien, Lemoyne; brother, Gerald Gryczko Jr., Huntersville, N.C.; nieces and nephews, Adrian, Nicolas, Diego Angel and Alejandro Gryczko Avellaneda, Brian Bogovic, Samuel and Joshua Myers, Sadie and Jackson Drazien; as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated after. The family will receive relatives and friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit.
